Insulting God

Insulting God (25 November 2020)

(Daily Devotions by Rev. Dr. J.N. Manokaran)

One rich man came to a children home with few sacks of wheat flour and some oil cans.  He said it was a donation and there was a great celebration for his gift and those who were managing the children home were very happy and grateful.  Next day, when the chef started his cooking job, found lot of worms in the donated floor.  When they checked all the flour sacks were old stocks and best before time was over.  Even the oil cans also were old and was of no use.  The rich man, instead of throwing in the garbage, he ‘donated’ to children home.  And he also received lot of acclamation which was hypocrisy.  Bible warns: “Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker.” (Proverbs 17:5) The rich man literally mocked God by giving to eat children, that was fit to be thrown in garbage.

Giving should not destroy dignity of people.  Those who receive should not feel that they are treated like sub-human beings.  God has created all human in His image, hence offending the self-esteem of people, by treating them inferior is sin against God.  Such giving should not induce inferiority complex in minds of receivers.

One rich man was buying meat from a butcher shop.  After buying for his family, he pointed out to some pieces, the butcher considers of lesser value or no value and asked him to pack that.  Butcher: “Sir, is it for your dogs?”  The rich man said: “No, this is for my servants.  They deserve to eat only this.”  All customers in the shop were shocked at the arrogance.  The rich man was giving to his servants, but inferior quality than what he would for his family.

Giving to others should be always cheerful, wholehearted, loving and dignified effort.  Giving should be with best intentions and with best possible things.  “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”  (Galatians 6:7)
